By Dr. Kenneth R. Sesley
Psalms 107:2 (KJV) Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy;
A. What are we Redeemed From?
B. What is the Curse of the Law?
1. Disobedience still has serious consequences today; however, in the Old Testament the people did not have a Savior to redeem them.
2. The curse of the law has multiple parts:
· The curse of poverty and lack, starting with vss. 15-20, 30-33, 38-40, 43-44 & 51
· The curse of sickness, in verses 20-22, 27-29, 35, 59-61.
· The curse of defeat at the hands of your enemies, in vss. 25, 29, 33, 49-52
· The curse of family dysfunction, vss. 30, 32
· The curse of pre-mature physical death, 26
· There are other curses throughout the Old Testament, always as a result of disobedience to God. Spiritual death was the first curse to come upon man, as mentioned in the 2nd chapter of Genesis
3. Poverty is a curse, not a blessing!
Luke 4:18-19(KJV)
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
C. We are Redeemed from Poverty and lack!
1. Redeemed Defined: Literally "to buy off," or "to set free by the payment of a price." The root word for redemption in Greek is agora, "marketplace," the site of the slave auction where, everyday in ancient Rome, human beings were put up for sale to the highest bidder.64 The word "redemption" declares that we have been bought with a price. "We are not saved by the Lord Jesus Christ by some method that cost him nothing! Christ paid the price so that we would never have to suffer poverty or lack again, no matter what the economy looks like!
2 Corinthians 8:9 (NKJV)
For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich.
Psalms 34:8-11(NKJV) Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him! Oh, fear the Lord, you His saints! There is no want (lack) to those who fear Him. The young lions lack and suffer hunger; but those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing. Come, you children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord. (Read vss. 12-14 to see what it means to fear or reverence the Lord.)
Psalms 37:18-19(KJV) The LORD knows the days of the upright: and their inheritance shall be forever. They shall not be ashamed in the evil time: and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied.
2. We are redeemed from poverty, unto abundance! (Joshua 1:8; Psalms 35:27; 112:1-3; Proverbs 10:22; John 10:10; Mark 11:24; 1 Timothy 6:17; 3 John 2:1
D. With Godly living, there is profit (1Timothy 4:8).
· But Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you (Matthew 6:31-33).
2. But You've got to turn to the Lord in true repentance, trust Him to help you live right and follow His precepts if you want Him to prosper you!
Matthew 4:17 (KJV)
From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
Acts 2:38(KJV)
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Memory Verse:
Galatians 3:13 -14 (NKJV)
Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree" ), 14that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith
